An advertising strategy is the big-picture thinking that lies behind your advertising campaign.
It should set out:
- where you are now in terms of your product, the competition and market trends
- what customers currently think about your brand
- your objective
- what you want customers to think, feel and do after seeing your campaign
- exactly how your advertising will achieve this
A good strategy does not need to be very long winded or complicated but it should be founded on reliable information, sound logic and realistic objectives. After all if your strategy is based on a false premise it stands little chance of success, so it's as well to devote some time to this before taking the plunge.
